The Haagse Jazz Club was founded in 1946. Therefore, on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the club celebrated a special milestone: its 80th anniversary.
Musical opening
The Dutch Swing College Band founded the The Hague Jazz Club. It was therefore all the more special that this particular band made a significant musical contribution to the anniversary program. The hall was completely full, and the audience looked forward to the performances with great anticipation.
The program began with Double Espresso, an ensemble of four female musicians with two alto saxophones and two baritone saxophones. Their performance was enthusiastically received, thanks in part to the music from the Roaring Twenties and their own compositions.
This was followed by an energetic performance by the Dutch Swing College Band. The band played well-known songs, which were likewise received with great enthusiasm by the guests of the Haagse Jazz Club.
Congratulations, appreciation, and distinction
A special surprise followed during the program. Mayor Jan van Zanen took the floor and congratulated the The Hague Jazz Club on its anniversary. He also expressed his appreciation for the current board, which has dedicated itself with great commitment to the continued existence of the club for many years. In addition, he reflected on the change in leadership. The four current board members are making way for a new board of six members. It is worth mentioning that the mayor himself is a big jazz lover.
The Mayor also presented the City Medal of The Hague to the retiring chairman, Fons de Rouw. He received this award for his dedication as chairman for over twenty years, a position he fulfilled with great pleasure.
All in all, it was a successful, festive, and memorable anniversary afternoon.
